What an AI-native organisation looks like

Same purpose, a new core.

It is Monday morning. A director in a government department has a cabinet briefing on Wednesday, three projects running behind and forty unread threads.

Today, the week goes the usual way. She asks her team for an update on each project. The updates come back on Tuesday, in different formats, and two of them disagree. A decision she could have made on Monday waits until Thursday, because nobody had put the facts in one place.

In an AI-native organisation, the same Monday looks different. Her AI Colleague has already read the week’s threads and meetings. It has prepared a one-page brief for each delayed project, with the open decisions, the commitments made and who made them. It has drafted the cabinet briefing from the latest figures and marked the two numbers that do not agree. She makes two decisions before ten o’clock. The third needs a conversation, so she has one.

Her job is the same. The work around her judgement has changed.

What stays the same: purpose

An AI-native organisation keeps its purpose. Its vision, mission and strategy are still set by people, and people remain accountable for the outcomes. AI does not decide what the organisation is for.

What changes: the core

The AI-native organisation: purpose stays on the outside, Enterprise Context in the middle, and Enterprise Intelligence, people and AI together, at the core. What stays and what changes

What changes is the operating core: the way work actually gets done every day. We see four changes.

Enterprise Context is the organisation’s own record of its work: the projects, the people involved, the commitments, the rules and the decisions, kept current from the work itself. It grows a little with every task, and it belongs to the organisation.

Enterprise Intelligence is what people and AI can do together on that context. The AI prepares, follows up and keeps the threads together. People set direction and make the calls that carry consequences.

How trust is built

No leader hands real work to AI on faith. In an AI-native organisation, trust is earned step by step. The AI prepares and people review. Any action with consequences waits for a person’s approval and leaves evidence of who approved what, and why. As the record grows, the organisation can decide where AI may act on its own and where it must still ask.

A core like this needs something to run on. In the next article, we look at the backbone the AI-native organisation needs.
