One backbone for the AI-native organisation
Why people and AI need one system of work, action and intelligence.
Walk through a typical large organisation and count the systems. CRM, ERP, HR, IT service management, procurement, document management, email and a growing number of AI tools. Each one keeps part of the record. None of them does the work end to end.
The work happens in between, and people carry it. They enter the same facts twice, chase approvals across inboxes and reconcile reports that disagree. People have become the glue between the systems.
Adding another AI tool to this picture gives the glue one more place to stretch. The new tool knows only what someone pastes into it. It cannot see the commitment made in yesterday’s meeting or the rule in last month’s policy, and it has no authority to act.
Keep the facts, drop the manual operating
The existing systems hold things worth keeping: the facts, the controls and the evidence that auditors and regulators rely on. What the AI-native organisation can drop is the manual operating around them: the copying, the chasing and the reconciling.
To do that, it needs one backbone that does the work and keeps the record.
Three systems, one backbone
- A system of work. The place where people and their AI Colleagues do the work together: briefs, documents, follow-ups and decisions, all in the context of each person’s actual work.
- A system of action. Where AI acts within a mandate. Every action is checked against policy before it happens, and anything with consequences waits for a person’s approval.
- A system of intelligence. The organisation’s shared context and models, which grow with every piece of work. Over time, this becomes the new system of record.
People sit above all three. They set purpose, decide at the key points and stay accountable.
Why it has to be one
Context, authority and evidence only line up when they live in one place. If the context is in one AI tool, the permissions in another and the audit trail in a third, they will contradict each other, and nobody will trust the result. With one backbone, the same facts that inform a draft also govern the action and appear in the record.
How organisations get there
No organisation switches its systems off on day one. The path runs in stages. First, every employee gets an AI Colleague that works above today’s systems, with no change to them. Next, AI runs whole processes within a mandate while the existing systems keep the record. Finally, the backbone carries the work and the record together. Each step is taken when the organisation trusts the one before it.
This is the backbone we designed ONE to be. You can see how ONE works, or read why enterprises should own their intelligence.
